I can't find my glue gun!!!!

How is anyone supposed to work under these conditions?!?!

I am writing this post as i wait for the glue to dry on my Christmas wreath for our front door.  I have three glue guns in a box somewhere and I can't find any of them...so i had to use the dreaded white glue!

I am taking this time to reflect on how i want my new crafting/sewing/upholstering room to designed:

I am going to need alot of shelving and labeled containers so i can find something (like my glue guns) quickly and easily...

I am envisioning my fabric hung on hangers on a clothing rack system similar to a dress shop.  I haven't decided whether i will organize it by type or by colour...

I want a bulletin board type wall thing so i can display my ideas, size charts and notes...

I am going to get a filing cabinet and go through all of my patterns.  I will put the pieces in a manilla envelope with the pattern number clearly written on it and then put the actual envelope or picture of the garment in a plastic sleeve in a binder with the number so i don't have to lug out ten boxes trying to find what i am looking for...AND i want to get a book shelf for all my books...

I would love to have my own laptop or computer so i can set up my pattern making software and printer.  (and an update to this - i got a silhouette cameo for Christmas!!) So i guess that means i will need a computer station...

I want to get a really hot iron with lots of steam and i will need a new ironing board for that.

From HGTV

I want lots of light so i can see when i am working on my projects...

I would love a large work surface so i can roll out a bolt of fabric in one shot and can easily cut out the pieces to whatever it I am making....

I want a spot for my industrial machine, my serger and maybe a new baby - some type of embroidery machine where i can design patterns on my laptop and send them to the machine to be embroidered...

Stating the obvious, i am also going to need some drywall and flooring (preferably laminate or vinyl)...

At this rate, my hubby's man cave is getting smaller by the second!

Ok now back to reality...i am going to have to set up something make-shift until we can finish the basement which will be sometime next year because i have a ton of sewing to do!

With everything going on, I forgot to post this before Xmas...here is an update on my wreath:

It took 72 hours for the white glue to dry.  It was the longest 3 days ever...L kept trying to play with the "pretty Christmas tree" and I had to do my best not to do the same, but i think in the end it was worth it!

Voila: my wreath

Holding true to tradition...

I can't believe that tomorrow is the day!!  Tomorrow also marks our 5 year wedding anniversary and funnily enough the traditional gift is wood.  I guess our house counts?  Happy Anniversary Honey, here's a house!!
Living with my parents has been great!  BUT I am really looking forward to getting my stuff back.  Things are going to be crazy for the next few days, but I have lots to share so I am going to be writing up a storm!!

40 days!!

With only 40 days left, we paid a little visit to the house today.  The siding is all done!  It looks like a real house now.

From the street, we could see in the master bathroom and we could faintly see the tiles in our shower.  From what i could see, it looks really good!!  After seeing that - we took a quick look in the front windows and the tiles in the foyer are in too!  From there I took a quick look in the dining room windows and saw that the kitchen is in!!  So from there I just had to run around to the back patio door so I could take a quick look in the window and saw our KITCHEN!!!  The floor is in, the cupboards are in and the counters are in.  IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!  I can't believe I get to live there!! Ohh man...only 40 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6 weeks today we will be in our new house!

I can't believe we are down to 6 weeks.  It seems like yesterday we were saying its only 6 more months!!  Where does the time go?

I got an email today about the medicine cabinet for the master bathroom so i guess that means one of two things - either the bathroom is done and this is the last thing they needed to complete OR they are just preparing and nothing has been done!  Since i can't go in to find out, i am going to go with the former!

We have our PDI date - October 25th at 1pm.  I can't wait to see what the house looks like complete!  The more I think about it, the more excited i get!  Living with my parents has been great, but I am really looking forward to having my own space and not living out of boxes.  That said, i am really going to miss them!

I want Bill's house...

By Bill i mean Bill Compton from True Blood.  I have been very envious of his house this season.  I was shocked to see it re-done at the beginning of the season (a product of his becoming the Vampire King for Louisiana) as it was rather run down and decrepit previously.

Its an old Plantation House that has been restored.  Here is a few pictures so you can see what i am talking about:

This is the living room:

This is the study:

You can find more pictures here.

I love that the colours are all very dark, the charcoal and black combination is awesome!!  If our house was under studio lights all the time, this is how I would decorate it!

As I sit here and analyze these pictures, I am also thinking about my trip to the fabric store to pick out a fabric to cover my chair its all coming clear to me: I am finally understanding my style.   I am colour-phobic.  By colour i mean red, yellow, blue, green, purple etc... I like the stable and safe neutrals - black, grey and beige.  The lady at the fabric store kept trying to steer me to a vibrant coloured fabric and a panic sort of came over me and i would immediately revert back to the neutral fabric i had picked out.  I wouldn't know what to do with colour.  99% of my furniture is white, black, or grey and the 1% that isn't, i am planning out how to make it so.  I have a desperate need to be stable, and i think these colour tones make me feel secure in that i know i won't have to change them every few months to keep up with colour trends.  WOW talk about epiphany here...

I made that idea post a few months back and I pull it out to refer to but I can never make the commitment.  This is probably why - deep down I am scared to.  So I think my challenge for the new house is going to be adding a colour other than a neutral.

I have so much to think about now!!

Only 59 days left!!

Tomorrow it will have been 4 weeks since baby G was born!  I have been busy "being a mom" so I haven't gotten out to the see the house as often as i would like!  Lots is new with the house though...

3 weeks ago, we got an email that one of our tiles got discontinued.  It was the floor tile in the main bath and since I didn't take any pictures of our design center choices, I had NO idea what we had chosen.  LOL gotta love mommy brain!  Anyway, it was a painless re-selection - we chose the second tile we pulled! While we were at the DC i quickly pulled all of our choices and took pictures.  Unfortunately, in my rush, i took them at weird angles so i haven't had the chance to go through and fix them up!  Soon though...

2 weeks ago, we got the email for the Home Owners seminar.  It's a course our builder offers to go through the final stages of the building process and possession.  We really wanted to attend as they did not offer this seminar when we bought our semi.  HOWEVER, this weekend, i was looking through the calendar (i am still disorganized from the move) and we have Pearl Jam tickets for the same night.  At first, I figured we could divide and conquer, but I lost the coin toss and I would be the one to go to the seminar so now i am re-evaluating that plan! (jk Hubs)

Last week they started putting the siding up.  I can't believe how much its starting to look like the picture!!

Last night we had a scary moment when we found out that a house in our phase was on fire.  Through the graces of social media we found out that it wasn't our place but that of one of our new neighbours. Sadly their house is gone and only a couple weeks before they were to take possession.  I can't even begin to imagine being in their shoes. Our hearts go out to them.
Here is the story that was on the news tonight (you can see our house from minute 1:27 to 1:29 - the guys are out working on the siding.)

I am having a "slow" day today so i have been able to catch up on my internet surfing.  I found the perfect bedding set for L's room.  Thank you to o.co !! (aka overstock.com).  Its a quilt set with construction trucks - matching the theme for his room perfectly.  YAY!!
